Craig Woods DVM, MS, MBA

Craig Woods is a veterinary consultant and co-founder of Woods Consulting, LLC.  Craig has special interests in toxinology and envenomation and was the Chair for Venom Week 2022, an international medical and scientific symposium on all things venomous.

Academic Career (2015-current): Craig holds an appointment with Arizona State University as the Director of Infectious Disease and Biosecurity Projects for the Complex Adaptive Systems Initiative where his recent academic projects have focused on biological weapons assessments, biosurveillance for highly pathogenic avian influenza virus, and the detection of serum biomarkers for cardiac amyloidosis with colleagues at the Mayo Clinic. Prior to ASU, Craig was the Director of Midwestern University’s Institute for Healthcare Innovation (2015-2021) and served as the Director of Research with a regional hospital network.

Industry Career (1998-2015): Craig worked in the pharmaceutical industry for companies in the US, Mexico, and France where he led due diligence and licensing negotiations for numerous drugs, biologics and medical devices.  Craig has also co-founded and managed multiple research companies to develop immunotherapeutics, medical devices, biological scaffolds and tactical defense technologies.

Practice: From 1995-1998, Craig was in small animal clinical practice and remains a licensed veterinarian in Arizona.  As a clinical investigator and veterinary consultant, Craig has served on a wide range of human and veterinary clinical studies in the areas of infectious disease, cardiology, envenomation (e.g., toxinology), oncology, neurology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, and autoimmune diseases.  

Clinical Research: Craig has extensive experience in managing human Phase II-III clinical trials, FDA and USDA regulatory affairs, veterinary clinical studies, as well as technology licensing and business development expertise.  His work in comparative ophthalmology was the basis for the development of a novel subscleral (suprachoroidal) glaucoma implant for humans.
